I''m looking to build a 25'' (7.5m) diameter dome, for an events space, using metal so that we can buy extra levels in the future.
My main question is where is best to source the metal tubing (from within the U.K. - even Yorkshire)? And possibly do the flattening of the pole ends and drilling (as I''m reckoning on using bolts to connect the struts)?
This leads to more questions; I was thinking that aluminium tubes (at least 1.5" diam. with 10swg(3mm) walls) could be the most suitable, in supporting the weight of proper canvas, as well as gits climbing on the thing...
-Would any thinner diameter/swg be strong enough, or what would be a good minimum to go for?
-Is there any difference in strength between round and square tubing?
...and finally... would aluminium or steel be cheaper, and would scaffolding bars be a cheap/viable source?
Sorry for that being an epic gaggle of questions, any help''d be grand...

Sorry about this being bunched up and odd; I did format it.
..And did put 25'(foot, not inch)...
Anyhow, we've decided on a 2V Icosahedron Dome;
and now the most important question is would 1.5 inch diameter x 3mm thick aluminium tubing support about 1/2 ton of canvas?
