What is the difference between 2V, 3V and for that matter 4V designs in dome construction?

It's how a geodesic dome is divided up for example a 2v dome has 40 triangle panels. A 3v dome has 75 panels. Also a 3v dome can be 3/8 or 5/8 because a 3v geodesic sphere can't be cut exactly in half so you have to go for a bit more or a bit less of a dome.
A 4v has many more panels and is much more complicated to build. I would recomend starting with a 2v or 3v dome first.

And how about L3 and 4V?

Hi Terraone
If you are aware of the L3 i guess you may already know the answer to your question ;)
The difference is the 4v will have 6 different strut lengths and the L3 will have only 5. In both cases there are 250 struts.

Hi Terraone
Glad it helped :)
From the layout it appears just one strut is different(A strut). In fact three of the lengths change (A,B&D struts). So don`t be fooled into thinking a standard 4v dome calculator will provide the correct lengths for the 5 strut version.. although you will have 2 correct lengths you will have 3 that are not ;)
