If you're a bit short of space or want to use a dome instead of having a bog standard conservatory take a look at this design, It's a 3 frequency, fits against a wall and has a neat door opening. Half the work of a free standing dome too.

You could also use a octahedron, it could wrap around the corner of a house :)

Yes way! Geodesics can be based on any of the platonic solids. The icosahedron is good because it has the smallest variety of strut lengths, but like Colin says, the octahedron can be really useful too because of its three perpendicular planes. The picture's 3/4 of a 4v octadome.
