I'm interested in dome building in SA as I split my time, working in SA and Europe. I'm looking for simple construction technique for producing hubs and would almost certainly go to glue lam struts as timber quality in SA is in question, although, gum poles come to mind as a construction material. I'm looking for ideally a method of producing the hubs in an engineering shop and then using local timber. In Zululand we have gluelam beam manufacturer and lots of gum poles. However, looking at building in Moz and Madagascar (Backpackers lodges) Was thinking either wrought and welded or tube and plate hubs that can be taken to site and local timbers used to complete
